Hiring: Head of Coffee

Since we began in 2017 we have developed relationships with friends and customers around the world, who enjoy brewing our coffees and share our values for clean and expressive coffee.
As we look to expand and grow our partnerships, we are looking for a dynamic, results driven Head of Coffee to join our team. It’s important that candidates fit the criteria outlined below, and share the values we talk about above.
About the Role
The Head of Coffee is responsible for directing, curating and roasting Obadiah’s seasonal coffee offering. They are responsible for maintaining the quality of Obadiah’s raw and roasted coffees, and will continue to drive us forward with a progressive, modern approach to coffee.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain relationships with raw coffee producers and importers, procure seasonal coffee catalogs, agree supply contracts in line with company budgets, maintain quality standards and support in other general areas as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with Obadiah’s network of green coffee importers and producers.
- Travel to coffee farms to source coffee and learn from with suppliers.
- Assess roasted coffee samples for quality with the intention to make purchase decisions and maintain consistency across our roasting production.
- Manage budgets, purchase coffee and conduct future purchase forecasting.
- Conduct weekly production roasting.
- Attend collaborative tasting events or presentations and industry networking events to develop supplier relationships and enhance Obadiah’s market presence.
Qualifications
- Experience in the specialty coffee industry, specifically in sourcing/roasting/quality assessment is essential.
- A keen interest and understanding for specialty coffee is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse data and market trends.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
