Balance and clarity.

Since 2019, Raw Material has been working in Burundi through the Izuba washing station and its export company. It provides jobs, supports farmers with access to useful resources, and helps fund local needs.

Coffee delivered to Izuba comes from three nearby hills: Kigeri, Ryamukona, and Mugoyi.

This washed red bourbon is revealing a tea-like character with notes of bright citrus fruits.

The Producer

Each delivery is recorded by farmer and by hill, allowing careful tracking of where the coffee comes from and the small differences between each area.

This lot from Kigeri Hill is part of that work. In 2020, Izuba worked with 1,482 farmers and processed 453,000 kilograms of coffee cherries, well within its full capacity, allowing for careful handling at every stage.

    Produced by Local smallholders
    Region - Runinya
    Grown at 1500 - 1700 masl
    Varietal - Red Bourbon
    Harvest - July 2025
    Process - Washed

  • Washed

Ripe cherries are washed and then pulped to remove the majority of skin and fruit from the bean before its fermented.

Fermentation is brief and helps to remove any remaining material from the pulping process as well as adding complexity to the coffee.

The coffee is then washed and sun-dried, mechanically dried, or a combination of the two until the desired moisture level is reached.
