Solasta
Our refreshed subscription takes its name from the Scots Gaelic word Solasta, meaning bright and shining. It reflects the character of the coffees we highlight each month.
Coffee 1 – Gicherori, Kenya (Washed)
This month, we are featuring a washed Kenyan lot from the slopes of Mount Kenya, produced by members of the Kibugu Farmers’ Cooperative Society and processed at Gicherori Factory.
Rich volcanic soils, high rainfall and the SL28 and SL34 varieties provide favourable conditions for coffee production in Embu County. The cooperative also works to protect indigenous trees and local waterways, treating wastewater before it is returned to the environment.
In the cup, you can expect a structured cup with berry acidity and jasmine.
Coffee 2 – Gitwe, Burundi (Washed)
The second coffee a washed process from Gitwe, from Long miles coffee in Burundi.
Gitwe comes from the hills surrounding Heza washing station in northern Burundi. Reaching Heza means winding through steep mountains and across hand-built bridges, a reminder of just how remote this part of Kayanza is.
This lot was processed using water from a nearby spring and carries the distinct character that has made Burundi coffees so loved. In the cup, expect bright citrus notes and tea-like qualities of black tea.
