Bukeye Washing Station

Our selected coffee is a washed Red Bourbon from Gaharo Hill, processed at Bukeye Washing Station at the base of the hill.

Bukeye was built in 2013 with the local community and is still closely tied to the farmers who deliver cherry there today.

After sorting, the cherries are washed, fermented, and then dried slowly on raised beds. The result is a structured cup with raisin-like sweetness and a floral finish.

The Producer

Founded in Burundi in 2013, Long Miles Coffee works directly with more than 14,000 coffee farming families across Burundi, Uganda and Kenya.

Their work is built around long-term relationships, traceability and quality, with dedicated Coffee Scouts providing year-round support to farmers and helping improve each harvest.

Long Miles has played an important role in bringing Burundian coffee to a wider audience, and we're proud to share their work through this release.

  • Washed

Ripe cherries are washed and then pulped to remove the majority of skin and fruit from the bean before its fermented.

Fermentation is brief and helps to remove any remaining material from the pulping process as well as adding complexity to the coffee.

The coffee is then washed and sun-dried, mechanically dried, or a combination of the two until the desired moisture level is reached.
